Call for Entries

The time is here again! Take a cruise down memory lane to that basement you lost weight, sleep, and hair over. The basement that you hoped you’d never set eyes on again. Well get out the photos – it’s time to submit them for the “Basement from Hell” competition.

In its sixth year, the “Basement of the Year” competition recognizes significant projects completed by poured wall contractors throughout the industry. Complexity, shapes, elevation changes, and wall thickness variations are just a few of the factors that determine the winner. Attendees will cast votes at the 2004 World of Concrete in Orlando, Fl. next February 17-20. The winner will get a special prize, as well as lots of notoriety.

Entering is simple. You must be a CFA member in good standing, and submit color photographs of the basement under construction with a 1-page description of why your project should win the award. Descriptions should include details about significant footing details, outstanding wall features, technical attributes, and special materials and processes.

Download the Submittal Form, fill it out on the computer or by other method and then email or fax your project narratives and digital images to Jim Baty. If you have not accepted technology with open arms, we will still send forms and accept entries through snailmail. Mail your entries to the CFA headquarters: PO Box 204, Mount Vernon, IA 52314.

The winners, as well as many of the entries, will be published in an upcoming issue of Concrete Facts and submitted to other periodicals (Concrete Construction, PBF, and other national magazines) for publication. CFA staff needs your submittals no later than ---, so that we can prepare the boards for the WOC booth, and publish all entries in the newsletter to encourage voting.

The CFA first sponsored this competition in 1998. Past recipients are Bontrager Concrete Specialties, Inc., 1999; Lavy Concrete Construction, Inc., 2000; Balmer Brothers Concrete Work, Inc., 2001; Permo-Structo, Inc., 2002; and ABI Corporation, 2003.
