The nominations committee of the Concrete Foundations Association has presented their slate of candidates for this summer's election. They include several new faces and regular terms for some directors who were serving temporary one-year terms under the rules of the old board structure.
New candidates are Dan Carpenter of Ball Brothers Foundations, Inc., Monroe, Ohio and Mark Markovich of Dependent Foundations, Inc., Brighton, Michigan. Scott Smith, who has served on the board for several years, decided he would rather serve the association at the committee level and decided not to seek reelection.
The structure of terms was modified at the last meeting to eliminate the temporary one-year terms. Beginning with the 2001 election the terms of 6 of the 18 regular board members will expire each year. This will hopefully eliminate some of the confusion regarding term expiration and overlap. The only exceptions to this rule are the vice president, president, and chairman who, because they enter a succession where a total of 6 years (each of these officer terms are 2 years) of service is required, will have their term automatically renewed if it expires during the succession. The other exceptions are the associate representatives. There are two associate representatives and they serve staggered two-year terms. Associate representatives are elected by their peers at the associate's summer breakfast meeting.
Candidates who now occupy temporary terms but will be filling regular slots are listed below with the expiration year of the spot they are filling. The candidates are Bill Mulready (01), Mike Klingert (02), and Dan Bromley (02).
The following candidates are seeking reelection. Their terms will expire in 2003: Brad Schrock, Custom Concrete Co., Inc, Westfield, Indiana; Tim Parish, Cornerstone Foundations, Harrisonburg, Virginia; Bryan Herboldsheimer, H & B Foundations, Elizabeth, Colorado; and Terry Lavy, Lavy Concrete Construction, Inc., Piqua, Ohio.
Board candidates are usually selected from those who are active in CFA committees and who express a desire to serve. If you would like to get an idea of what board and committee service entail plan to attend the committee meetings the morning of August 3 at the Lodge of Four Seasons held in conjunction with the CFA summer meeting. A complete list of committees can be found in the CFA membership directory. |
