The CFA Annual Winter Meeting will be held this year at The Adventurers Club located on Pleasure Island in Downtown Disney. Downtown Disney also includes the West Side and the Marketplace. The primary purpose of the meeting is networking with your peers from across the country. There will be a short meeting where the winners of the Basement of the Year Award (also known as the Basement from Hell Award) and the Contactor of the Year Award will be announced.

In case you didn't notice, the Basement of the Year Award received good coverage in the September '99 issue of Concrete Construction (beginning on page 31).

The Adventurers Club is a gathering place where early 20th Century explorers would gather to talk about their exploits and display artifacts collected from around the world. A cast of actors posing as explorers will mingle with the crowd to provide some additional atmosphere. A hearty buffet will be served during the meeting featuring salads, several meat entrees, smoked corn on the cob and dessert.

The Adventurers club is just one of the attractions on Pleasure Island, an after dark activity center for the over 18 crowd. The CFA official event runs from 6:00 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. but you should plan to spend the entire evening on the Island. Included in the price is access to all of the attractions on Pleasure Island. Entertainment to suit all ages and many tastes is available including the Comedy Warehouse, Jazz Company, Wildhorse Saloon, Rock 'N'Roll Beach Club, BET Soundstage Club, 8 Trax, and Mannequins.

The evening activities peak beginning at 11:45 p.m. with a high energy dance number, a laser and light show, and fireworks extravaganza. Transportation to and from the event is on your own but there is ample parking. If you plan to stay late you might want to consider a cab.
