The San Juan Range of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado is the site of the 1999 CFA Summer meeting. The CFA’s last visit to the Rocky Mountains was the summer of ’96. At that meeting, members white water rafted, went horse back riding, attended a BBQ and generally enjoyed the scenic beauty of Colorado. This year we are visiting a different part of the state and I think that you will find even more adventures to experience.
The main social event for this year’s meeting will be a ride on The Silverton, the scenic narrow gauge train that hugs the side of the rugged mountains on its way to our dinner in Cascade Canyon. A special CFA train will transport attendees to the canyon where a catered dinner will be served. The 52-mile round trip adventure will on Friday afternoon, July 9th.
On Saturday afternoon attendees can choose between a golf outing on one of the World’s top 100 resort courses or a spectacular white water rafting adventure. Following the white water rafting adventure in ’96 many members went back and repeated the trip the following day. This year’s adventure should be just as exciting. A new closing event this year will be a mountain side Bar-B-Que. A relaxing dinner in a beautiful mountain setting seems like a perfect closing to the summer event.
If you don’t want to sign-up for one of the association sponsored events there are many other activities you can investigate. They include horse back riding, mountain jeep tours, and exploring abandoned gold mines to mention a few. If you plan to spend some extra days in Colorado (which I highly recommend), you should visit the Great Sand Dunes national park in South Central Colorado and Mesa Verde Cliff Dwellings in the Four Corner’s area.
Now for the other reason you come to the summer meeting, the education. The event will kick-off on Thursday evening, July 8th, with an exhibitor hosted reception and exhibition. The formal education portion of the summer meeting will begin the following morning and will be similar to last year’s. Friday, Doug Stabler of Custom Concrete will begin with a lecture followed by the popular round table discussions. Friday’s presentations will be followed by a luncheon and an associate’s exhibition. On Saturday, Brent Anderson will present the lecture followed by the Video lectures. This concept, where CFA members tape a particular aspect of their operations, was well receive last year.
The final program and topics will appear in the next news letter. You should, however, make your room reservations as soon as possible. We have increased the number of room nights from last year but the remote location of this resort and the limited number of rooms available means it is possible that available we could run out of space. The CFA price for rooms at the resort is $150 for single and $160 for double rooms. Suites are also available. Inquire at the hotel for availability and cost. The reservation number is 1-800-678-1000. Make sure you identify yourself as being with the CFA. The special price is valid for 4 days prior and 4 days after our event. Call soon. |
